Goat and tattoo
Quite as the ram, the tattoo of goat symbolizes power, the vital force, the libido and the fertility. But the goat is before any a tragic animal. Literally, tragedy means “song of the billy goat “. It was originally the song with which we accompanied ritually the tattoo of a billy goat in the parties of Dionysus. Dionysus had metamorphosed into billy goat when Typhoon attacking the Olympus and scattering the gods frightened during his(its) fight(wrestling) with Zeus, he runs away in Egypt. The billy goat is traditionally the image of the lust. It is a tattoo symbol of abomination, condemnation and injustice. Unclean animal absorbed by its need to procreate, the billy goat is not more than a sign of curse which takes all its strength in the Middle Ages: the devil, the god of the sex is then represented under the shape of a billy goat. Quite as the control stick, the billy goat is also frame of the witches who go to the Sabbath.
Somewhere else, the tattoo of billy goat represents the animal idol which gets the evil, the pernicious influences, taking care of all the misfortunes which threaten a village. The more he is a bearded man and stinking, the more he is effective.
For vedic India, the billy goat appears as the symbol of the fire, the sacrificial fire where from is born the life, new and holy life.
