Since dawn of humanity tattoos were made on both sexs to adron, to modify the skin we had from birth. A lot of tattoos are the expression of the freedome and unicity of oneself…A tattooed man differenciate from the others by the uique adornment of his skin represneted by a tattoo.
In a lots of places in the world different people use tattoo and scarification to show their social rank. Tattoo was atribal practice that enabled each individual to show it’s memebership to a clan, a tribe and it’s social status. This practice was spread worldwide for the celtics, the romans, the greeks or more far civilisation like arabian countries, oceania, asia or the indian american. In the “primitive” society tattoo had the essential function of marking the place of each individual in the group; it usually go along with the adulthood access initiation rite.
But most of the tattoos are tribal: This is the tradition that marks a person as a member of a group. It can be the membership to a religious movement, ethny or a tribe. The access to the new status that offers tattoo must be earned by the individual that must give of itsself and suffer to obtain it. That’s why in a lot of tribes tattoo was reserved to chiefs, warriors, and would mark generally the virility of the boy that would grow as a man.
