Tattoo an ancestral ritual that becaome savage
A few years ago i’ve read a book about femal sexual mutilation, so i got interested in the meaning of some traditions like exicision. Those few research made me think that those practices are not in a rational logic. The weight of tradition, the importance of the rituality, the divers mythes related to sexual mutilation make them unseparable from the larger frame of the social marks.
Closer to us the proliferation of the “fashion” of tattoo and piercing, if they are less mutilatory thhuoug they are forever.
What is a savage ritual?
The question is realy relevant in the sens that a ritual( that evoks repetition, organization and planification) is far to make us think to a savage gesture.
Domesticated savage and sacred savage.
Roger Caillois says they are two type of sacred: the sacred linked to the observance to the forbidden things, and the sacred of transgression which exists by it’s proximity with barriers that limit the sacred. In the two cases the access to the sacred is ritualized so in way domesticated.
This is precisly the contrast between those two forms of sacred called “domesticated sacred” that makes caillois says that a kind of “savage sacred” was born into the western civilisation thanx to the religious crisis.
The savage sacred is a lived experince of the chaos.
It is not thus shape ” instituating” ” of the sacred which takes assizes on a shape, even forgotten, of crowned “established”(been established”). In the same way, reviving forms established of crowned, sacred “establishing”(being established”) has all the chances to be established in his turn and it from the first attempts of communication of the experience(experiment) instituante.
